Oregon BeerHere’s the Oregon beer news for Tuesday, January 8 (one full week of the new year behind us). As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day with the latest news as I find it, so check back often. And if you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.

Silver Moon Brewing (Bend) has a new beer being released and an all-day special on it today: “Announcing the release of Silver Moon’s new AMARILLO ANXIETY (Alpha Project part 2) Pale Ale. Join us Tuesday 1/8 for the release of this hoppy new pale ale. Get a pint of Amarillo Anxiety and a logo’d pint glass for just 6 Bucks. All day Tuesday. See you here. One glass per patron. Prost!”

Base Camp Brewing (Portland) announced on Sunday a new upcoming beer that should be available in the next couple of weeks: “We’ve got a totally killer dopplebock shaping up in the lager tank right now! We taste-paneled it yesterday, and we’re thinking it will be ready to rock right around mid-January. Stats? 20.4 SRM, 30 IBUs, 17.4/3.6°P OG/TG. We’re really excited for this beer, and have put our own twist on the traditional dopplebock style. . . more details to come!” I have yet to try Base Camp’s beers but I loves me a good Doppelbock.

Lompoc Brewing (Portland) has a new, somewhat unusual release coming up on the 23rd: “Enjoy the release of our new Illegally Blonde Stout at Hedge House on Jan. 23. A blonde stout? This light colored, full-bodied beer will make you think it’s playing a role that’s not its own. Inspired by the German pale stouts of centuries old, this blonde stout owes its body and bitter flavors to rolled oats and acidulated malts rather than dark, roasted ones. Centennial and WIllamette hops contribute pleasant fruity and floral notes. Oh, and did we mention free food?”  Blonde stouts… the new Black IPA?

Cascade Brewing (Portland): Tonight’s Tap It Tuesday at the Barrel House is featuring “Live” Rum Cointreau: “This live NW style sour was aged more than 15 months in rum barrels then aged on sweet orange zest for another seven months. Aromas of tart orange peel, sweet malts and rum are the first to be noticed. Tart notes of orange and rum dance on the palate, then give way to a subtle rum-influenced finish with a bright citrus note. This bright ray of sour sunshine might seem like a summer sipper, but au contraire… 12.15% ABV, $7.5 glass, $3 taster.”

Widmer Brothers (Portland) has a new beer on tap as well (January is a good month for releases!): Columbia Common Spring Ale. This new spring seasonal (which is also being released in bottles) is 4.7% abv and described as: “The Columbia Hop was near extinction when we brought it back to create this crisp, easy drinking common ale. With a rich amber hue, Columbia Common, the new spring seasonal release for 2013, has a mild grassy and spicy hop notes are complemented by a fruity character and clean finish brought on by the use of Hefeweizen and lager yeasts and unique malt bill. It’s the perfect beer for spring. Prost!”

I wasn’t joking above, saying January is a month for releases: Sky High Brewing (Corvallis) posted earlier today that they are releasing their new Russian Imperial Stout tomorrow: “You like them big and creamy, rich and chewy? Want to sit at the feet of Catherine the Great in your faux-fur Cossack hat? Then this RUSSIAN IMPERIAL STOUT’S for you! Release party tomorrow during Hoppy Hour, 4-6pm. Our BREW KAHUNA will be here, with lots of swag to give away.” No details yet on the beer itself, but an RIS is a perfect mid-winter brew.
