Oregon BeerSecond day of beer news for the new year, so far so good! Here’s the news for Tuesday, the 6th of January. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often for the latest news. If you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated as well.

Hopworks Urban Brewery (Portland) has launched a new “Community Tap” program to donate a percentage of pint sales to a given cause. “On the first day of 2015 we are officially kicking off our Community Tap program. The program is one way we work to support the great organizations in our community. Each month we will send 1% of pint sales to a partner organization. In January, our Community Tap partner is Friends of Trees.” I missed their official kickoff last night, but all this month if you drink at HUB you’ll be helping support Friends of Trees. Cascade Brewing (Portland): Their weekly Tap It Tuesday event at their Barrel House tonight at 6pm is featuring “Live” Brambleberry Quad. “This NW style sour ale is a blend of Spiced Quads aged nine months in Bourbon barrels before blending with black and red raspberry pressings. Tart bramble fruit flavors of raspberry, blackberry and boysenberry combine with a rich malt presence from the Quads to create a beer that is uniquely Oregonian. 9.4% ABV”

McMenamins Fulton Pub & Brewery (Portland) has a limited-edition beer tasting today starting at 5pm, featuring Oak Aged Yellow Jacket IPA: “Yellow Jacket IPA is bright yellow and full of NW hop flavor. Chinook, Centennial, and Cascade hop varieties combine forces over a crisp body of Pale and Vienna malts. This version was then allowed to age in American Oak. The result is a citrusy, hoppy, and quite refreshing IPA with an undertone of rich mellow woodiness.” The beer is 6.84% abv and 75 IBUs, and when it’s gone, it’s gone.

The Bier Stein (Eugene) tonight from 7 to 9pm is hosting the Eugene launch of Full Sail‘s new Session series releases that I wrote about yesterday. From the Bier Stein’s page: “Hood River’s Full Sail Brewing is launching a few new additions to its Session line of beers– an IPA and an Export-style Lager. Come down and have a taste– and give others a taste as well; we’ll be doing a food drive for Food for Lane County!”

The Mountain Jug (Sunriver) is closed most of this week, doing some upgrades and renovations on the space until this Thursday, January 8 (at the least). By that schedule I’d expect it to be open by Friday and the weekend.

That collaboration brew I wrote about yesterday between Terminal Gravity Brewing and GoodLife Brewing? Looks like it’s actually taking place today here in Bend at the GoodLife brewery. Still no final details on that the beer is (I’m still betting an IPA variant) but I would expect in a few weeks we’ll find out!

Portland will be getting a monstrous new beer hall this year, featuring all Oregon brews, according to the Oregonian newspaper yesterday. “This spring, [Kurt] Huffman and his partners, Alex and Chris Briggs, plan to open The Loyal Legion, a new Southeast Portland beer hall with 99 Oregon brews on tap and an all-local menu featuring Olympic Provisions sausages. Construction begins in February on the space, the former Portland Police Athletic Association building at Southeast Sixth Avenue and Alder Street.” 99 beers is a lot—probably too much, frankly, because it’s hard to imagine having enough turnover (even with enough seating) to keep that many taps fresh. Good article though, make sure to read it all.

Arch Rock Brewing (Gold Beach) though tiny has a big beer on today: “Sneak peak release of our newest Brewer’s Select Series… He-Man Imperial Stout is now on tap at the brewery! Will be available to accounts soon.” Too bad Gold Beach is a good six-hour drive from here!

Deschutes Brewery (Bend) has a side-by-side tasting experiment for patrons of the Bend pub today: “We need your help. In our quest to continue to improve our already Damn Tasty beer, we begin a hop trial tasting in our pub today. Come try two IPAs side by side and tell us what you think.” It’s this type of experimentation and customer feedback that typically leads to one of the next big(ish) beers that might end up in bottles, so make sure to stop by and offer up some taste buds.

Portland’s two Hophouse taproom locations—Hawthorne, and 15th—is once again calling January IPA Month which features their “Third Annual Hophouse Best of Oregon IPA Contest… This year we are featuring twelve Oregon IPAs in a contest to give the favorite pick a place on our taplist for the remainder of the year. We have also decided to make it a blind tasting this year.” You can get a flight of all 12(!) for only $12, which I assume you’ll then vote on your favorite, blind. They will reveal the winner next month, on February 21st. (Via New School)

Fearless Brewing (Estacada) will be closed for nearly two weeks starting Monday the 12th: “Fearless Brewing Company pub will be closed from January 12th and will reopen at 4 pm on Friday, January 23rd. Time for some repairs, some new paint, some deep cleaning, and best of all… getting ready for our new brewing equipment that will arrive in April!”

  1. I live in southern Utah near Vegas. Where can I buy Blackwatch Cream porter. I love this stuff. Have not been able to find it around this area. Last time I found it was in Phoenix
