Oregon BeerHere is the news in beer from around Oregon for Tuesday, January 30. As usual, I’ll be periodically updating this post throughout the day, so check back often for the latest news. If you have news to share, please contact me and I can get that updated too.

Today is the final “Thank God It’s Tuesday in January” beer release from Gigantic Brewing, featuring Mystery Cloud: “Gigantic’s latest “Hazy IPA”, this super juicy, soft and fluffy IPA is loaded with Citra, Simcoe and Crystal hops, creating citrusy, tropical, and dank deliciousness. Haze it and they will come! Available on draft while it lasts.”

Portland Cider Company is celebrating their fifth anniversary this year, and plans to host their anniversary party on Saturday, March 3, just over a month away. From the press release that came out yesterday: “One of Oregon’s original cidermakers, Portland Cider Co. will celebrate five years in the industry this spring, and the company is celebrating with an anniversary party and two limited release ciders. The party will take place on Saturday, March 3 from 4pm to 10pm at the company’s Clackamas Pub & Cidery, located at 8925 SE Jannsen Rd, Bldg. F. The event is open to the public and all ages are welcome. The celebration will feature two limited release ciders in honor of the occasion: Throwback Scrumpy in bottles and Fever Bark Tonic on tap.”

McKenzie Brewing (Eugene), which you also know as Steelhead Brewery, has their anniversary beer now on tap: “Our special 27th anniversary brew is finally here! This year, we brewed up a Scotch Wee Heavy. Smoked malt and aging on ex bourbon barrel staves makes for one complex beer. Grab some before it’s gone for good!”

Nectar Creek Mead, which started in Corvallis, recently built out a new tap room and production facility in neighboring Philomath. They just moved in and opened up the tap room in the last couple of weeks, and yesterday the Corvallis Gazette-Times ran a nice article about the new location and the founders. Some tidbits: “In 2012, Phillip and Nick Lorenz co-founded Nectar Creek and started producing its line of meads. Earlier this month, the business opened its taproom and restaurant after completing a move from Corvallis to Philomath. The new facility includes a 5,000-square-foot production space, a 1,500-square-foot taproom and a 2,000-square foot patio. Nectar Creek had a “soft opening” Jan. 13-14 for family and friends and then opened to the public Jan. 16. The taproom features 24 taps, most pouring a variety of year-round, seasonal and specialty meads, but also guest local beers, ciders and wines. Bottles, cans and growlers are available for mead to go.” Congrats! I’ll look forward to visiting.

Full Sail Brewing (Hood River) has a new Session flavor out: Tangerine Twist. From the press release: “‘We wanted the tangerine to come through in this lightly hopped pale ale,’ says Full Sail Brewmaster Greg Doss. ‘A hint of Cascade hops gives Session Tangerine Twist a natural citrus character and a twist of lemon rounds it out.’ Tangy aromas of citrus zest and tangerine burst from this golden, refreshing ale. The citrus fruits make this brew multi-dimensional while still being light and drinkable, in line with the rest of the Session Series. It’s everything you love about Session, with a twist!”

Deschutes Brewery (Bend): Tuesdays are Community Pints days at the Deschutes locations, with $1 from every pint sold donated to a local non-profit organization. In Bend for January, the Bend Pub and the Tasting Room are benefiting In Our Backyard. In Portland, the Pub is benefiting Polar Plunge for Special Olympics Oregon. Be sure to stop in and help out with a pint or three today!

Cascade Brewing (Portland): Today’s Tap It Tuesday event at the Barrel House at 6pm is featuring Bourbon Basil Lemon: “A blend of sour spiced quad, blond, and triple aged for up to two years in white wine barrels, bourbon barrels, and one of our mighty foudre; we then blended in Meyer lemons and fresh basil. The warming bourbon, bright citrus, and fresh herbal notes play nicely in this cocktail style sour.”
