Jubelale 2012 artwork (and release)

I stopped in to Deschutes Brewery last night (the Bend Pub of course) for the official Jubelale release and artist signing, something I’ve done for the past few years: the Brewery gives out free poster prints of that year’s label, and the artist is on hand to chat and sign them.

So in addition to drinking a tasty pint of Jubelale (thanks, Jason!) I got a chance to chat a bit with the artist, Kaycee Anseth, who employed a unique approach to creating the artwork for this year’s label:

The 2012 label is literally “layered” with meaning – the artwork, titled “Revelers and Troubadors,” was created through a complex collaging process by artist Kaycee Anseth Townsend. She uses small scraps of paper to create designs, and she comprised this year’s packaging entirely from pieces of past year’s Jubelale labels. You might even recognize a scrap or two from years gone by inside the incredibly intricate final design.

All in all Anseth spent about 300 hours working on the label, and it’s pretty amazing to get a good look at it up close (the original was on display). This picture doesn’t really do it justice but it’s not bad either:

Overall I think this might be my new favorite Jubelale label. You can see past versions on this PDF here.
