John Harris / Golden Valley Brewery collaboration brew

I had been hinting in my Oregon beer news posts about John Harris‘ latest collaboration beer project, with Mark Vickery of Golden Valley Brewery. Originally it was a beer slated to be released this Thursday for Golden Valley’s Beaverton location’s first anniversary, but unfortunately the timing brew day had been pushed back and the beer won’t be ready in time for the anniversary.

John Harris & Mark Vickery collaboration brew

Harris, who had announced his departure from Full Sail Brewing nearly a year ago to start his own Portland-based brewpub, had previously brewed up a collaboration beer with Tony Lawrence of Boneyard Beer in Bend (with whom he had worked at Deschutes Brewery many years before), an “India Wheat Ale” dubbed ALEIAS released last fall.

Harris and Vickery also worked together at Deschutes back in the day, and together they had developed the start-up recipes for Golden Valley way back in 1993—so this collaboration brew is, in a sense, a 20-year anniversary brew for the two brewers and GVB.

Here are the details on the beer, which they brewed on the 21st.

Valley Red Imperial Collaboration Brew

Bold, zesty Red Imperial rises with assertive hop bitterness using English Target and Australian Galaxy hops. Mid palette softens to fruity esters and a late addition of Goldings and more Targets. Dry hopped with a blend of galaxy/golding hops; the Valley Red finishes truly Imperial. Brewed by legendary Oregon brewers Mark Vickery and John Harris
OG – 1.069        IBU – 79      ABV – 7.4%

I’d expect for this to appear on tap at GVB Beaverton within a couple of weeks.
