Happy 22nd birthday, Belmont Station!

Belmont Station

Belmont StationPortland’s Belmont Station, a long-time favorite beer bar and bottle shop for many, celebrates its 22nd (golden!) birthday this Monday the 22nd! The party is an all-day affair, and instead of just one special anniversary beer, this year there are four beers available that were brewed just for the Station.

Here are details from the press release that went out last week:

Fresh off the heels of several recent accolades—including the Oregon Beer Awards Best Beer Bar/Bottle Shop for five years straight (since the awards’ inception) and listed among USA Today’s “10Best Beer Bars in the U.S.” for the past three years –Belmont Station celebrates 22 years of beers on Monday, April 22, with an Earth Day fundraiser and special beers made just for the event.

This year, Belmont Station teamed up with four Oregon breweries to craft four special beers for their 22nd anniversary, most of which will be available both on draft and cans:

Barley Brown’s Belmont Anniversary IPA – a draft-only offering that founder/brewmaster Tyler Brown says is one of the original recipes for his famous Pallet Jack IPA. (A current version will be pouring alongside it for those wishing to taste the difference).

Culmination Psychic Oasis Hazy Double IPA – brewed with Motueka, Citra and Mosaic hops.

Ruse 45th & Stark IPA – this West Coast IPA is named for the corner where Belmont Station lives.

Wayfinder ‘Tasties’ Export Lagerbier Hell – a refreshing lager dedicated to Belmont Station’s employees who call getting a small sample of a beer at the bar after their shifts “grabbing a Tastie.”

Of course, other tasty beverages will be on tap from these and other breweries and cideries, and a portion of the proceeds from the day will be donated to Friends of Trees since the party takes place on Earth Day!

I’ve been visiting Belmont Station since when it was simply a (small) bottle shop with beer swag next door to the Horse Brass Pub, when it actually was on Belmont Street, and it’s one of my favorite Portland stops. Usually it’s for the bottle shop (picking up beers to bring back home) though sometimes we have time for a beer.

And for the occasional event, such as when Belmont Station hosted the Japanese brewers during the Oregon Brewers Festival that were in town for the OBF, and then the time a few years back when they were kind enough to host a signing of my book.

Belmont Station really should be a must-visit for anyone traveling to Portland to check out the beer scene, and if you’re anywhere nearby today, you really should stop by to help them celebrate their golden birthday today.

Happy birthday Belmont!
