Gift ideas for beer geeks

With just over a week to go until Christmas, you may be struggling with ideas of what to get for your resident beer geek. Fortunately as there always are this time of year, there are a number of beer gift guides for you to check out.

The New School, for instance, has a three-part series running down some great if obscure beer-related gifts, presented with a suitable amount of colorful commentary; check out Part One, then Part Two and Part Three.

CraftBeer.com has a nicely thought-out holiday gift guide, and then you can always search for “beer” on Etsy for a whole slew of ideas and unique gifts.

To these I’ll add a few of my own suggestions:

The United States of Beer Tasting Map

The United States of Beer Tasting Map

Excellent and unique tasting map from the maker of the 33 Books series, that I reviewed here. It’s both stylish and functional and will look great on your wall.

33 Books

33 Bottles of Beer

If you’re going for the map, you’ll also want to check out the excellent tasting books in the 33 Books series—particularly 33 Bottles of Beer and 33 Mugs of Cider, though there are also books for cigars, chocolate, wine, cheese and more. They’re portable, durable, and make it very easy to enter your tasting notes particularly with the flavor wheel. Highly recommended.

Sam Adams Utopias Cigars

Sam Adams Utopias Cigars

You may not be able to get your hands on a bottle of the super premium, super limited Utopias itself but you might enjoy these specialty cigars seasoned with Utopias.

Additional ideas include:

  • Beer soap — handcrafted soaps made with beer you can find many places
  • Homebrew kits — a great way to get people started making their own beer
  • Specialty glassware — tulips and goblets are always fun

And of course, beer itself is always a good choice, too.
