First package of the new year

Today I received a promotional beer package containg three bottles of Widmer‘s latest creation, Drifter Pale Ale—the first such package of the year already and it’s only the fifth! (Actually, there was apparently a shipping snafu with UPS, otherwise it would have arrived "last year.")

I knew it was on its way, just not when it would arrive. You can read the press release here; they’re marketing Drifter Pale Ale as laid back and "for those longing for lazy days adrift on the lake."

(Seems like this would be better for summer months, but then again, I suppose it’s summer in the southern hemisphere.)

This helps to put the packaging in perspective, as you’ll see in my pictures below: fishing bobbers (or floats, or whatever you’d call them).

At first I thought the cord they tied this up with is meant to represent candy cane colors (you know, for the holidays), but upon closer inspection is really nice nylon rope that you’d use in boating.

I’m looking forward to trying this. I’ll try to have a review up in the next day or two.

  1. That’s quite the unique packaging those beers came in. I suppose it’s made that way to help fool the shipping companies as to the contents. I just got done shipping a 6-pk in a stand up padded box. I hope it makes the trip ok.
