Thanksgiving Week (2010)

This week it’s Thanksgiving here in the U.S., and also coincides with Theme Week here at The Brew Site, so I thought I’d do something similar to last year and combine the two with Thanksgiving-themed blogging to round out the holiday. Thanksgiving naturally evokes the beer-and-meal pairing posts from the beer blogs, with everyone offering up great suggestions on what beer to drink with what part of the meal. Carla, the Beer Babe, short circuits … Continue reading →

Pumpkin Beer Week: Elysian Night Owl

Even though by my own rules Pumpkin Beer Week ended last week, I still had a bottle of Elysian Brewing’s Night Owl Pumpkin Ale to review. So (again, my own rules!) I’ve extended the Week long enough to include this review. To be honest, I have mixed feeling about Night Owl these days. Back in 2008 when I first reviewed it, it was a pure rave: I declared that it “might well be my new … Continue reading →

Pumpkin Beer Week: Kennebunkport Pumpkin Ale

Pumpkin Beer Week: Links & events

A roundup of links and events I’ve been coming across, both pumpkin-themed and (at least one) Halloween-themed: Cambridge Brewing Company is featuring their 3rd annual Great Pumpkin Festival coming up this Saturday, the 30th. Sounds like it’s the east coast version of Elysian’s Pumpkin Beer Festival (and Elysian is one of the guest breweries at CBC’s event), and CBC will be offering up 8 of their own pumpkin beers (among which are a “Barrel-aged Wild … Continue reading →

Pumpkin Beer Week: Deschutes Pompion

I’ve been eagerly awaiting for Deschutes Brewery to put their first ever pumpkin ale on tap, and today was the day! I was able to get down there just after work to enjoy an inaugural pint, and take a few notes for a review. They’re serving Pompion (the old word for “pumpkin” in colonial days) on nitro, which lends it an incredibly creamy, smooth body and texture. It’s 40 IBUs and 6.8% alcohol by volume, … Continue reading →
