Advent Beer Calendar 2015: Day 4: Olde Burnside Father Christmas Highland Ale

Happy Friday! For today’s Advent beer pick we travel to East Hartford, Connecticut, home of the Olde Burnside Brewing Company, founded in 2000 at the location of the historic Burnside Ice Company. Olde Burnside specializes in “traditional ales with a Scottish twist” so it’s appropriate that their holiday ale is a Wee Heavy: Father Christmas Highland Ale. It’s a hefty 9.6% alcohol by volume, and they say it’s their “Ten Penny Reserve with cherry added after fermentation.” … Continue reading →

Advent Beer Calendar 2015: Day 3: Thirsty Dog 12 Dogs of Christmas Ale

Today’s Beer Advent Calendar pick is a bit of whimsy, coming from Akron, Ohio’s Thirsty Dog Brewing: their 12 Dogs of Christmas Ale, a spiced Winter Warmer that comes in at 8.3% abv. This beer’s name sums up the idea of bringing the best together to celebrate. It is filled with seasonal flavors from generous amounts of toasted and caramel malts, mixed with equally generous amounts of honey, cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg. We feel it … Continue reading →

Advent Beer Calendar 2015: Day 2: Bocq Gauloise Christmas

Brasserie du Bocq was established in 1858 by Martin Belot and over six generations has remained in family hands, and: …has remained independent of any Belgian or foreign brewer. Located in the heart of the Condroz, wonderful tourist region, this … Continue reading →

And here at The Brew Site it means that it’s time for the annual Beer Advent Calendar countdown—each day I will reveal a new Christmas-y or winter-y beer as we count down to the holiday. Last year I noted that it was the tenth edition of the calendar, and this … Continue reading →

Advent Beer Calendar 2014: Day 24: Christmas Eve at a New York City Hotel Room

Happy Christmas Eve! Today is the last day of the Beer Advent Calendar, and to commemorate I picked a beer with a mouthful of a name, brewed by the “evil twin” brother of Mikkeller—no kidding, read this article for the backstory. They are both from Denmark, they are twins, they both contract (or gypsy) brew beers that beer geeks love, but they don’t like each other! So while they may not be the best story … Continue reading →
