This was a bit of Central Oregon brewer news that came up during Central Oregon Beer Week, so it got lost in the shuffle a little bit: Brett Thomas, the head brewer at Silver Moon Brewing here in Bend, is the new head brewer of Sunriver Brewing, which he officially announced on Facebook a few weeks ago.

Up until recently, Sunriver didn’t have a brewhouse of their own and started out contract brewing with Phat Matt’s Brewing from Redmond, so this is good news for them: Brett is a great brewer with an almost unequaled understanding of recipe formulation. He’ll also be able to oversee the buildout of their 15 barrel brewery, which is definitely a huge plus.

Meanwhile over at Silver Moon, head brewing duties will be taken over by Stuart Long, who previously worked in the San Diego region with Port Brewing and The Lost Abbey. In addition to bringing the SoCal beer sensibility to Bend he also has experience in production and packaging, good things to bring to the table for Silver Moon (which recently signed on with Bigfoot Distributing).
