Block 15 Corvallis Half Marathon Gose

Block 15 Corvallis Half Marathon GoseOne of the side effects of visiting Block 15 Brewery last month in Corvallis (as with many breweries we visit) is that I brought back a couple of growlers of their beer: the Corvallis ½ Marathon Gose and the Aboriginale. And I’m needing to start catching up on beer reviews (I have a lot backlogged!) so the growlers are  good place to start.

Unfortunately you won’t find this on tap right now (though I wouldn’t be surprised to see this make a return appearance next year); it was a seasonal brewed for (you guessed it) the Corvallis Half Marathon, a crisp and über-drinkable session beer at 3.5% abv for the marathon runners to enjoy as a thirst-quenching option.

(Drinkers of somewhat-obscure German sour beer styles, don’t despair: Block 15’s website currently lists “Violet’s Blueberry Berliner Weisse” on the menu!)

Appearance: Hazy, pale yellow body, with beaten egg white head.

Smell: Lightly tart with hints of coriander; a bit of wheat and some lactic sourness.

Taste: Light and crisp, with a cream of wheat kind of character punctuated by a lemony saltiness and a touch of spice from the coriander. Very mellow and drinkable. Lemony note that comes up in the back that’s really nice. A bit salty at the back, too.

Mouthfeel: Light, crisp, with a touch of yeasty bite and a slight pucker.

Overall: Really nice, enjoying this beer a lot. Insanely drinkable.

No BeerAdvocate or RateBeer page, but there is an Untappd page for the beer—2 of the 3 check-ins on it were my own.
