American Craft Beer Week (2011)

American Craft Beer Week 2011Today is the first day of American Craft Beer Week, the “Mother of all Beer Weeks” celebrating the culture and community of craft beer:

…an exciting opportunity for small and independent craft brewers and the community of better beer retailers to feature craft beer in their community. Plus, tens of thousands of today’s beer beginners, beer enthusiasts, and hard core beer geeks make time to toast the week.

Across the U.S., hundreds of breweries will be participating by hosting events and participating in ACBW.

Here in Bend, Deschutes Brewery is celebrating American Craft Beer Week with a week-long (what else?) Sausage Fest:

We firmly believe that few things complement each other quite as well as beer and sausage! That’s why we’ve chosen to celebrate American Craft Beer week (The Mother of All Beer Weeks) with a Sausage Fest. At both our Bend and Portland Pubs, we will be pouring a rotating selection of our Reserve Series beers and also pairing a beer sample tray with a six-piece sausage sampler. This means that you’ll have one beer to pair with each sausage style…we’ll even tell you our pairing recommendations. A special bar snack menu will also be available featuring, you guessed it, sausages!

And today they have Abyss 2010 on tap.

The other Bend breweries aren’t doing anything specific (that I can find) for ACBW, but there are things going on just the same:

  • Bend Brewing Company has “Outback X chocolate truffles” available, to go along with their tasty beers (they would pair well with the Doppelbock and Scotch Ale currently on tap);
  • Silver Moon Brewing has a number of spring seasonals on tap now, including “Andre Le Geant” a Belgian-style Trippel that was brewed for the “Cheers to Belgian Beers” festival last month in Portland.
  • 10 Barrel has their “Big Handle” tap rotating with series of specialty beers, including Peanut Butter and Jelly Beer (which I missed but wrote about), a Citrus Summer Ale, and a Watermelon Kiwi Summer Ale.

If I run across more Bend events I’ll post them also.

Now go drink some craft beer!
