For this eighth of December, today’s Advent beer pick takes us to western New York to the ski town of Ellicottville, home of Ellicottville Brewing Company. For the holidays the brewery offers its Lloyd’s Christmas Ale, a spiced imperial brown ale with figs, brewed to the tune of 8% ABV and 25 IBUs.

A description of the beer from Brewbound reads:

Ellicottville is often referred to as the “Aspen of the East.” To celebrate the Holiday season, we decided to embellish upon a classic story of two rascals’ trip over the mountains and through the woods that lands them in Aspen, CO. Such is the tale for many who travel to Ellicottville to enjoy the winter and celebrate the Holidays. Lloyd’s is an Imperial ale brewed with fresh ginger and figs with a full-bodied mouthfeel and just the right amount of character in all the right places. Seasons Greetings!

The brewery was opened in 1995 and has three locations with a fourth opening soon. In case you haven’t figured it out yet, this Christmas ale was inspired by the movie Dumb and Dumber, whose main character played by Jim Carrey is named Lloyd Christmas.

Figs are an interesting addition you don’t find too often, and this sounds like a delightfully fun beer to crack open on the slopes.
