Today’s Advent calendar beer pick comes from Dexter, Michigan and one of the highest-esteemed sour, wild, and Belgian-style breweries in the country, Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales. Each year for Christmas they brew a strong dark Belgian-style ale that is 9% alcohol by volume: Noel de Calabaza.
Of this Special Ale they offer a few notes and tidbits:
Deep mahogany and malty, layered hops, flavors of figs, raisins, sugar plums, cashews betwixt rum laden truffles.
Noel de Calabaza spends time aging in oak barrels, adding layers of complexity to tickle your palate. This is a great beer to enjoy with Christmas dinner, or out of a snifter in front of a crackling fire while snow falls outside.
