Lebkuchen is brewed to 6.5% abv with Maris Otter malt and spiced, and is inspired by the German Christmas treat Lebkuchen (think of it as similar to fruitcake). Here’s a snippet from the press release:
“Legend has it that the Lebkuchen honey cake traces back to the Egyptians, Greeks and Romans and was a gift of the deities that had magical and healing powers,” Atwater owner Mark Rieth says. “We’re not saying our beer is magical or has healing powers but we know that it’s unique and refreshing and will add a lot of spirit to any holiday festivities.”
And I’ll leave you with the text on the “ugly sweater” box:
Like trimming the tree, this beer should be part of every holiday tradition. Imported malts rolls richly together to deliver a gift of raisin, caramel and honey flavors. A dash of spice brings forth almond and gingerbread aromas while leaving a clean, bright finish. Forget the cookies, leave our Christmas Ale out for Santa this holiday.
