Advent Beer Calendar 2013: Day 13: Rogue Santa’s Private Reserve

Rogue Ales Santa's Private ReserveToday’s Advent beer pick finds us in Oregon and one of the older and well-established craft breweries in the country, Rogue Ales. Rogue was founded in 1988 in Ashland and in the 90s moved to Newport on the Oregon Coast and today they have their own mini “beer empire” with multiple brewing and pub locations, a distillery, and even their own farm and barley farm.

Accordingly today’s beer pick is Rogue’s Santa’s Private Reserve, a 6% abv “double-hopped Red, reddish in color, with a roasty, malty flavor and a hoppy spruce finish.”

A perennial holiday favorite, this year Santa’s Private Reserve is not only made with Rogue-grown barley and hops, but the bottle itself contains a Christmas-y bonus: the snowflakes on the silk-screened label actually glow in the dark, which would look especially nice as a decoration under your Christmas tree!
