Worthy Brewing: Peace Pipe Porter

Worthy Brewing: Peace Pipe Porter

Earlier this month I had an article about the goings-on at Worthy Brewing here in Bend: the release of Strata IPA, their X-Hop experimental beers, the release of Dark Muse Imperial Stout. One beer that didn’t make the cut, however, was their Peace Pipe Porter, the fall and winter release … Continue reading

Advent Beer Calendar 2017: Day 24: McMenamins Kris Kringle

Advent Beer Calendar 2017: Day 24: McMenamins Kris Kringle

It’s the final day of the Beer Advent Calendar, and I hope you enjoyed following along this year as we counted down the days to this Christmas Eve! On this final day I’ve chosen the holiday seasonal from the McMenamins chain of brewpubs that span Oregon and Washington: Kris Kringle. … Continue reading

Advent Beer Calendar 2017: Day 23: Avery Rumpkin

Advent Beer Calendar 2017: Day 23: Avery Rumpkin

This is the next-to-last day of the Beer Advent Calendar, and it also happens to be my birthday! As part of my annual tradition, today’s beer pick isn’t a Christmas beer per se, but it is definitely a specialty, celebratory beer that’s “for me.” It’s always fun to pick out … Continue reading

Advent Beer Calendar 2017: Day 22: Füchschen Weihnachtsbier

Advent Beer Calendar 2017: Day 22: Füchschen Weihnachtsbier

Today’s Advent beer selection comes from the heart of Altbier country, Düsseldorf in Germany, and the Füchschen Brewery—their Christmas Alt, Füchschen Weihnachtsbier. I love the idea of a quaffable, sessionable holiday Alt, at only 5.2% alcohol by volume (compare to their standard Alt at 4.8%). Just in time for St. Martin’s Day … Continue reading

Received: Deschutes Hop Henge, Red Chair

Three bottles from Deschutes Brewery arrived this week: two 12-ounce bottles of Hop Henge Imperial IPA, and one 12-ounce of Red Chair NWPA. The Hop Henge surprised me as I thought it was draft-only this time around. Always a fun beer, and just in time for Christmas!

Advent Beer Calendar 2017: Day 21: Harpoon Winter Warmer

Advent Beer Calendar 2017: Day 21: Harpoon Winter Warmer

Happy Solstice! Today marks the official start of winter, the shortest day of the year (and conversely, longest night of the year), and to accompany this day I thought an American classic was appropriate: Harpoon Brewery’s Winter Warmer, a spiced ale first brewed nearly 30 years ago. Cinnamon and nutmeg … Continue reading
