Eight Malty Nights

This is a neat brewing idea from Portland’s (New Old) Lompoc Brewing: Every year, Lompoc Brewing releases more than a half dozen Christmas beers around the first of December. Recipe: Harvest Apple Ale

Actually I’m leaning towards calling this beer “Hood River Harvest” because all of the apples came from Hood River; we went apple picking in September and came back with a ton of both apples and pears. I have to admit, I’m a bit stumped as to how to approach this month’s Session: Framing Beer, hosted and suggested by Andy Couch. For better or worse, in everyday situations beer comes with a label. Shipyard Brewing Company’s XXXX IPA was honored with a Silver award at the Stockholm Beer and Whiskey Festival. This award was presented in the “Ale Modern Style 6% and Above” category. The Stockholm Beer and Whiskey Festival is one of Europe’s largest trade and consumer shows. Shipyard was just one of ten U.S. breweries to receive an award at this festival.
