A-B’s Winter’s Bourbon Cask Ale
January 9th, 2006A few months back I’d blogged about Anheuser-Busch brewing a seasonal pumpkin ale. Now they have a winter offering, too: Winter’s Bourbon Cask Ale. Yes, that link is to their press release, and yes, it’s been out since December somtime, but one of their PR people sent me the link on my contact form, so I decided to blog it.
And frankly, it doesn’t sound like a bad beer:
Brewed with dark roasted caramel malts and all-imported hops and aged on toasted bourbon oak casks and whole Madagascar vanilla beans, this winter brew is the second to be launched in a series of specialty seasonal drafts.
If I had access to it, I’d try it. BeerAdvocate even gives it a passing grade (though only 14 reviews so far) of 82. Not bad.

It sounds really good to me, too. A couple of years ago i tried a Bourbon Stout at the Dominion Brewpub in DC. The bourbon finish in the stout was heavenly. I didn’t have to drive so I had four pints. This sounds deliciously similar.
@ January 10th, 2006 at 05:44That does sound pretty good indeed.
@ January 10th, 2006 at 16:31I sampled Winters Bourbon Cask Ale at Busch Gardens in Tampa, It tasted great. I recommend it if you can find it. Also tried Bare Knuckle Stout, another great product. I am not a big fan of Busch products but these were exceptional in flavor. Too bad they are only on available for a restricted period of time or only on tap.
@ January 16th, 2006 at 15:07I work at a pizza restaurant in Potomac MD that ju8st started selling Winters Bourbon Cask Ale. THIS IS NOW MY FAVORITE BEER OF ALL TIME! This beer is so good, i push all of my customers to try it, and none of them dislike it. I just wish I could get my hands on some to take home! I’ve never had a beer that tastes so sweet, yet still tastes like beer is supposed to taste. The aftertaste is slightly sweet and vanilla. AWESOME BEER!
@ February 2nd, 2006 at 19:08They hqve it applebees on tap fellas
@ February 11th, 2006 at 13:24I really like this beer. I work for an A-B distributor & they sent us a few sample cases. We had about 3/4 of case left over & the let me take it home yesterday. Wish this was a year-round beer, i’d buy it!
@ February 25th, 2006 at 09:18I tried this in January of 06 at a local pub and it is one of the best beers I have ever drank. (2 thumbs way up) I didnt realize it was a seasonal beer until I stopped back by the bar eager to drink more and was dissapointed to find out this was just a seasonal beer. Cant wait til December! I would have to agree with Mar Mahy and say if this was offered year round I would enjoy every time.
